  • Author: Isabella
  • Total Time: 35 mins
  • Yield: 4-6 parathas
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Stuffed Peas Paratha is a delicious Indian flatbread filled with a spiced peas mixture, perfect for a nutritious breakfast or snack. This whole wheat stuffed paratha combines soft dough with flavorful peas seasoned with cumin, green chili, and garam masala, cooked on a hot tawa until golden and crispy.

Ingredients

For Dough:

  • Wheat Flour / Atta – 1 cup + extra if needed
  • Salt – 1/2 tsp
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Water – as needed

For Filling:

  • Peas – 2 cups
  • Green Chilli – 2
  • Oil – 1 tsp
  • Cumin Seeds / Jeerakam – 1 tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder – 1 tsp
  • Salt – to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: In a mixing bowl, combine the wheat flour, salt, and oil. Rub the oil thoroughly into the flour until the mixture is crumbly. Gradually add water and knead to form a soft, smooth dough. Cover the dough with a bowl and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  2. Cook the filling: Heat 1 tsp oil in a pan over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and green chilies; sauté briefly until aromatic. Add the peas (blended or mashed to a puree) and cook until the water evaporates completely, stirring continuously.
  3. Spice the filling: Add salt and garam masala powder to the cooked peas mixture. Stir well to combine the spices evenly. Remove from heat and allow the filling to cool. Divide the mixture into equal portions or balls.
  4. Divide the dough: Divide the rested dough into equal-sized balls. Take one dough ball and roll it out lightly into a small disc. Place a ball of the cooled pea filling in the center.
  5. Stuff and roll the paratha: Carefully fold the edges of the dough over the filling to seal it completely. Gently roll out the stuffed dough ball again into an even, circular flatbread, being careful not to tear the dough.
  6. Cook the paratha: Heat a tawa or flat skillet over medium-high heat. Place the rolled paratha on the hot tawa. Cook for a few seconds, then flip it over. Spread some oil on the cooked side, flip again, apply oil, and cook both sides until golden brown spots appear and the paratha is cooked through.
  7. Serve: Remove from the tawa and serve the hot stuffed peas paratha immediately with yogurt, pickles, or chutney for a hearty meal.

Notes

  • Adjust water quantity while kneading dough for soft and pliable texture.
  • Green chilies can be adjusted based on spice preference.
  • Peas can be boiled and mashed or pureed before cooking with spices.
  • Ensure paratha is cooked on medium heat to avoid burning while achieving crispness.
  • Serve hot for best taste and texture.
