Description
Ritz Cracker Toffee is an easy, indulgent dessert featuring layers of buttery caramel and melted chocolate over crispy Ritz crackers. This no-fuss recipe combines simple ingredients to create a sweet, crunchy treat perfect for sharing or satisfying your sweet tooth in under an hour.
Ingredients
Scale
Base
- 1 box Ritz crackers (about 30 crackers)
Caramel
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- ½ cup packed brown sugar
Topping
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Pinch of sea salt (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line an 8×8 inch baking tray with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- Arrange Crackers: Place the Ritz crackers in a single even layer on the bottom of the lined baking tray. Fill any gaps by breaking crackers in half to ensure full coverage.
- Prepare Caramel: In a saucepan, combine the butter and brown sugar. Heat over medium until the mixture is fully melted, then bring to a boil for 2 to 4 minutes without stirring to create a smooth caramel.
- Pour Caramel over Crackers: Carefully pour the hot caramel evenly over the crackers. Use an offset spatula to spread the caramel so all crackers are well coated.
- Bake Caramel Layer: Place the tray into the oven and bake for 5 minutes to thicken and set the caramel layer.
- Add Chocolate Chips: Remove the tray from the oven and place it on a heat-safe surface. Evenly sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot caramel layer.
- Melt Chocolate: Return the tray to the oven for 2 to 3 minutes to soften the chocolate chips.
- Spread Chocolate: Take out the tray and immediately use the offset spatula to gently spread the melted chocolate evenly over the caramel. Avoid over-melting or burning the chocolate.
- Cool and Set: Allow the tray to cool briefly, then transfer it to the refrigerator for about 2 hours to let the toffee harden and set completely.
- Serve: Once firm, break or slice into pieces and enjoy your homemade Ritz Cracker Toffee!
Notes
- For best results, use full-fat unsalted butter.
- Using parchment paper helps prevent sticking and makes removing the toffee easier.
- Be careful not to overbake the caramel or chocolate to avoid burning or bitterness.
- Add a pinch of sea salt on top for a salted toffee flavor twist.
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature or in the fridge for longer freshness.
