Description

A healthier twist on the classic banana split featuring homemade banana ice cream made with frozen bananas and almond milk. This recipe includes two delicious variations: a classic banana split loaded with fresh fruit, coconut whipped cream, and dark chocolate drizzle, and a s’mores-inspired banana split with toasted marshmallows, crushed graham crackers, and chocolate. Both are naturally sweet, dairy-free, and perfect for a guilt-free dessert treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Banana Ice Cream

  • 4 bananas, previously sliced and frozen
  • 1/2 cup almond milk

Classic Banana Split

  • 1 banana, split lengthwise
  • A few scoops of banana ice cream
  • Sliced banana
  • Sliced strawberries
  • Coconut whipped cream (or regular whipped cream)
  • Sprinkles
  • Maraschino cherries
  • Melted dark chocolate for drizzling

S’mores Banana Split

  • 1 banana, split lengthwise
  • A few scoops of banana ice cream
  • Toasted marshmallows
  • Crushed graham crackers
  • Melted dark chocolate for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Make the banana ice cream: Place the frozen banana slices into a high-powered blender or food processor. Add the almond milk, starting with a small amount, and blend until the mixture is thick and creamy, resembling soft-serve ice cream. You may need to pause blending to scrape down the sides or use the tamper to blend evenly. The key is to keep it thick by adding as little almond milk as needed.
  2. Assemble the classic banana split: Lay one banana split lengthwise on a plate. Top it with a few scoops of the banana ice cream, a dollop of coconut whipped cream, sliced banana, sliced strawberries, sprinkles, a couple of maraschino cherries, and finally drizzle melted dark chocolate over the top.
  3. Assemble the s’mores banana split: Lay the second banana split lengthwise on a plate. Add a few scoops of banana ice cream on top. Sprinkle crushed graham crackers over the ice cream, then add a few toasted marshmallows. Drizzle melted dark chocolate generously over the top and finish with another handful of crushed graham crackers for texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Coconut whipped cream can be used as a dairy-free alternative to regular whipped cream.
  • For perfectly toasted marshmallows, use a kitchen torch or carefully toast over an open flame.
  • Use a powerful blender or food processor for the banana ice cream to achieve the best creamy texture.
  • Bananas must be sliced and frozen ahead of time to create the ice cream.
