Description
Gourmet Chocolate Covered Strawberries are a decadent and elegant treat perfect for any special occasion. Fresh strawberries are carefully dipped in melted Ghirardelli baking chocolate and can be optionally coated with toppings like crushed nuts or coconut, then chilled to set for a beautiful, luscious dessert.
Ingredients
Scale
Chocolate
- 10 ounce package Ghirardelli Baking Chips (Bittersweet, semi-sweet, or milk chocolate, 285 g)
- Optional: White chocolate for drizzling
Fruit
- 2 pounds fresh strawberries (stems attached)
Toppings (Optional)
- Crushed nuts
- Shredded coconut
Instructions
- Prepare Strawberries: Start by washing the strawberries thoroughly, then dry them VERY well with paper towels. It’s critical that they are completely dry, as chocolate will not stick if any moisture remains on the strawberries.
- Prepare Toppings and Workspace: If using toppings such as crushed nuts or coconut, place them in separate small plates. Line a sheet pan with parchment or waxed paper to place the dipped strawberries on.
- Melt Chocolate: Using a double boiler or microwave, melt the Ghirardelli baking chips. If microwaving, heat in 30-second intervals, stirring each time to prevent burning until the chocolate is smooth and fully melted.
- Dip Strawberries: Hold each strawberry by the stem and dip it into the melted chocolate. Lift and twist slightly to allow excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl. If desired, immediately dip the chocolate coated strawberry into your chosen toppings or leave them plain. Place the dipped strawberries on the prepared sheet pan.
- Optional White Chocolate Drizzle: To add a decorative white chocolate drizzle, dip a fork into melted white chocolate and drizzle it over the dipped strawberries in a back-and-forth motion.
- Chill to Set: Place the dipped strawberries in the refrigerator and chill until the chocolate is set, about 15 minutes. Once set, serve or store refrigerated until ready to enjoy.
