Ingredients
Scale
Pickles
- 12 dill pickle slices
Breading Mixture
- 1½ cups Panko bread crumbs
- ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- ½ teaspoon salt
Batter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon dried dill (optional)
Frying
- Oil (for frying, enough to submerge pickles, approximately 2 cups)
Instructions
- Preheat Oil and Prepare Panko Mixture: In a non-stick skillet, heat oil to 360°F to 370°F to prepare for frying. Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, whisk together the Panko bread crumbs, cayenne pepper, and salt to create the seasoned breading mixture.
- Make Batter: In another medium bowl, whisk together the flour, milk, baking powder, egg, paprika, black pepper, and dried dill until the batter is smooth and consistent. Allow the batter to rest for at least 5 minutes to thicken slightly.
- Dry Pickle Slices: Dab the pickle slices dry thoroughly using paper towels to remove excess moisture, which helps the batter and breading adhere better.
- Prepare for Breading: Place about ½ cup of the seasoned Panko bread crumb mixture in a small bowl for easy dipping.
- Coat Pickles: Dip each pickle slice first into the batter, ensuring it’s fully coated, then gently dredge it into the Panko bread crumb mixture. Set the coated pickles on a baking sheet and let them rest for a few minutes to allow the crumbs to adhere properly.
- Fry Pickles: Fry the breaded pickle slices in small batches in the hot oil for 3 to 4 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Be careful not to overcrowd the pan to maintain oil temperature.
- Drain and Season: Transfer the fried pickles to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil immediately. Sprinkle with additional salt while still hot for optimal flavor.
- Serve: Serve the fried pickles warm with ranch dressing or your favorite dipping sauce for a delicious appetizer or snack.
Notes
- You can adjust the amount of cayenne pepper in the breading for more or less heat.
- Drying the pickle slices well is essential for achieving a crispy coating.
- Maintain oil temperature between 360°F and 370°F to avoid greasy fried pickles.
- Serve fried pickles immediately for the best crispy texture.
- Leftovers can be reheated in an air fryer or oven but may lose some crunch.
