Description
Chocolate Covered Strawberry Penguins are a fun and adorable treat made by dipping fresh strawberries in melted chocolate and decorating them with candy eyeballs and orange sprinkles to resemble penguins. Perfect for parties, holidays, or a delightful snack that combines fresh fruit with sweet chocolate.
Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 1 quart fresh strawberries (approximately 15-20)
- 4 oz chocolate (semi-sweet or milk, chopped)
- 30–40 candy eyeballs (2 per strawberry)
- 30–40 round orange sprinkles (2 per strawberry)
Instructions
- Prepare the strawberries: Wash and completely dry the strawberries using paper towels. Ensuring they are fully dry is crucial because moisture will prevent the chocolate from adhering properly.
- Melt the chocolate: Place the chopped chocolate in a small, microwave-safe bowl. Heat it in 30-second intervals at 50% power, stirring between each interval until the chocolate is smooth and fully melted, which should take about 5-6 minutes.
- Dip and decorate strawberries: Insert a strawberry onto the end of a skewer to keep chocolate off your fingers while dipping. Dip the strawberry into the melted chocolate, leaving a triangular section exposed to create the penguin belly. Let any excess chocolate drip off, then press two candy eyeballs onto the chocolate above the exposed area. Immediately follow by pressing two round orange sprinkles below the eyes upright to form the penguin’s beak.
- Set the chocolate: Place the skewered strawberries upright in a holder such as floral foam, an empty jar, or a tall cup. Allow them to set at room temperature for 20-30 minutes until the chocolate is firm.
- Serve and enjoy: Once the chocolate has set, remove the strawberries from the skewers if desired, and enjoy your charming chocolate covered strawberry penguins immediately.
Notes
- Make sure strawberries are completely dry before dipping to ensure chocolate sticks well.
- Use semi-sweet or milk chocolate based on your preference for sweetness.
- If candy eyeballs and orange sprinkles are unavailable, small edible decorations can be substituted creatively.
- Chilling the strawberries after dipping is optional but can speed up chocolate setting if desired.
- These treats are best enjoyed fresh for optimal texture and flavor.
