  • Yield: Approximately 24 footballs 1x

Description

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Footballs are a fun and festive treat featuring homemade edible cookie dough shaped like mini footballs, coated in rich chocolate, and decorated with white chocolate laces. Perfect for sports-themed parties or game day snacks, these no-bake delights combine the creamy sweetness of classic cookie dough with a smooth chocolate coating.

Ingredients

Scale

Cookie Dough

  • 3/4 cup (168g) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 3/4 cup (158g) light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (52g) sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (260g) all-purpose flour, heat-treated (measured correctly)
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 12 tbsp water, if needed
  • 1 1/2 cups (211g) mini chocolate chips

Chocolate Coating & Decoration

  • 16 oz chocolate melting chocolate
  • 3 oz white melting chocolate

Instructions

  1. Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, cream the unsalted butter with the light brown sugar and sugar on medium speed for 2-3 minutes until the mixture is light in color and fluffy, indicating it’s well aerated.
  2. Add Vanilla Extract: Mix in the vanilla extract until thoroughly combined to enhance the flavor.
  3. Incorporate Flour and Salt: Gradually add the heat-treated all-purpose flour and salt to the mixture. Stir until combined. If the dough is too crumbly, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of water to help it form together.
  4. Fold in Chocolate Chips: Using a silicone spatula, fold in the mini chocolate chips evenly throughout the cookie dough.
  5. Shape Dough Into Footballs: Using a 1 ½ tablespoon cookie scoop, scoop out portions of dough. Then, shape each portion into a football shape with your hands and place them on a plate or cookie sheet.
  6. Refrigerate: Chill the shaped cookie dough footballs in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours or until firm. You may also prepare these a day ahead and refrigerate them until ready to dip.
  7. Melt Dark Chocolate: Melt the 16 oz of chocolate melting chocolate according to package instructions in a small to medium bowl, ensuring enough depth for dipping.
  8. Dip Footballs: Insert a toothpick into the long side of each cookie dough football. Dip the football completely into the melted chocolate, then gently tap the toothpick against the bowl edge to remove excess chocolate.
  9. Set on Parchment and Remove Toothpick: Place the coated footballs on parchment paper. Twist and gently remove the toothpick, optionally using it to tidy the hole and create a clean break line for excess chocolate removal after drying.
  10. Allow Chocolate to Dry: Let the chocolate fully harden at room temperature, then lift off the parchment and break away any excess chocolate along the marked lines. Transfer to a clean sheet of parchment or cookie sheet.
  11. Melt White Chocolate: Melt the white melting chocolate, then transfer it to a piping bag or squeeze bottle.
  12. Pipe Football Laces: Decorate each chocolate-coated football by piping white chocolate laces across the top to mimic real footballs.
  13. Final Drying and Storage: Allow the white chocolate to fully set. Serve immediately or store the footballs in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Bring to room temperature before serving for softer texture.

Notes

  • Heat-treat the flour before using to ensure it is safe to eat raw.
  • If the dough feels too sticky, chill it slightly before shaping.
  • Use mini chocolate chips for better texture and ease of mixing into the dough.
  • Make sure the chocolate is completely cooled before removing excess edges to avoid cracking.
  • Storing these treats in an airtight container in the fridge helps maintain freshness up to 5 days.
  • Bring chilled cookies to room temperature before serving for best flavor and texture.
