Ingredients
Scale
For the Chicken Teriyaki Burgers
- 1 lb. ground chicken
- 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
- 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
For the Sesame Slaw
- 2 cups shredded cabbage
- 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions (optional)
Additional Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons avocado oil for frying
- 4 brioche buns
- 1/4 cup yum yum sauce (or mayonnaise, sriracha, chili crisp, or preferred sauce)
Instructions
- Make the Sesame Slaw: In a mixing bowl, toss together shredded cabbage, toasted sesame oil, rice vinegar, sugar, salt, and chopped green onions if using. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed to achieve a balanced tangy and savory flavor.
- Make the Burgers: In a large bowl, combine ground chicken, teriyaki sauce, panko breadcrumbs, garlic powder, and salt. Use clean hands to mix everything thoroughly until the mixture is well combined. Shape the mixture into four large, evenly-sized patties for uniform cooking.
- Fry the Burgers: Heat avocado oil in a skillet over medium heat. Place the chicken patties in the hot pan and cook for 3 to 5 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and the patties are mostly cooked through. Flip the patties and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes until fully cooked and no longer pink inside, or when an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) is reached.
- Toast the Buns: Remove the burgers and wipe out the skillet if necessary to clean burnt bits. Place the brioche buns cut side down in the skillet over medium-low heat and toast them until lightly browned and crisp, about 30 to 60 seconds.
- Assemble the Burgers: Spread yum yum sauce generously on the top and bottom buns. Place a cooked chicken patty on the bottom bun, then top with a helping of sesame slaw. Cover with the top bun, press gently to hold everything together, slice if desired, and serve immediately.
Notes
- You can substitute ground chicken with ground turkey if preferred.
- The yum yum sauce can be swapped for mayonnaise, sriracha, or chili crisp depending on your preferred spice level.
- Ensure the chicken patties are cooked thoroughly to 165°F to avoid any food safety issues.
- For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free panko breadcrumbs and teriyaki sauce.
- The sesame slaw can be made ahead of time and refrigerated to enhance the flavors.
